‘Darshan’, ‘prasadams’ of Lord become scarce for devotees
Tirumala , May 20:

Not only the Lord’s ‘darshan’, even his ‘prasadams’ have become scarce for devotees who line up for hours only to be pushed around when they come face to face with Him.

All that they know about ‘prasadams’ is the ever-popular ‘laddu’, that is known in local parlance as ‘maha prasadam’.

Such is the sorry state of affairs in the TTD that the devotees don’t even know the various types of offerings made to the Lord of Seven Hills.

Also, many don’t even know what is being given.

Once the pooja ceremonies are completed the offerings are shared by the TTD Board members, temple officials and brokers who are allegedly related to them.

Not many are aware that there are 50 types of ‘prasadam’ are offered to God. Among them known to the devotees are ‘laddu’, ‘vada’, ‘dosa’, ’jilebi’, ‘mahaladdu’, ‘pulihora’ , ‘pongal’, ‘daddojanam’.

During the various ‘sevas’ to the deity like ‘nitya seva’ and rest (virama samayam) ‘navaneetam’ is offered along with items prepared using cow milk.

After ‘tomalapurti’ during ‘koluvu’ jaggery, black til, and ‘shonti’ are given as ‘nivedan’.

During the first hour after ‘sahasranamarchana’ rice mixed with milk ‘meegada’, butter and curd are offered.

The Lord gets daily quota of ‘chitrannam’, ‘daddojanam’, ‘ksheerannam’, ‘khumbam, ‘payasannam’ and during afternoons ‘nadukam’, ‘laddu’, ‘dosa’, ‘vada’, ’appam’.

Later after ‘ashtothara satanamarchana’ He receives ‘suddannam’, sweet ‘seera’. Dinner after ‘tomala seva’consists of ‘marichchannam’, ‘udaannam’.

During rest after ‘aradhana’ ‘payasanna’ is offered.

On Sundays the Malayappa Swamy gets a special item, ‘amruta kalasam’, made of rice flour, jaggery and ghee.

Devotees believe consumption of this ‘kalasam’ leads to good health and power to beget children.

Sadly, this item is not offered to those who come for Lord’s darshan.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays the specially made offerings include ‘seera’, ‘vada pappu’, ‘panakam’, ‘pulihora’ with ‘puttu’, ‘jilebi’and’ ‘muruku’.

Many devotees hope and wish that at least a few of the ‘prasadams’ offered to the Lord should be distributed to them, instead of giving to the blessed TTD Board members and temple officials.
