Mr. Nagaraj,

Thanks for your reply on behalf of deputy EO Mr. Siddaiah. The reporting time for 'angapradakshinam' might have been changed according to the temple convenience. Let us know the significance of angapradakshinam' since the first paragraph in your attachement states something about the restrictions.

First of all, the management should not forget that the `angapradakshinam' (rolling around the temple precincts with wet clothes) is a very ancient practice, in vogue even after several generations. It is a kind of `prayer' for which utmost sanctity is attached. Devotees perform this ritual as a fulfilment of their prayers -- whether it is related to the recovery of an ailing family member, overcoming of financial constraints or achieving a particular task. Religious sentiment is attached to the `angapradakshinam'.

According to the temple beliefs, `prayers' are of four kind - `anga pradakshinam', trekking the holy hills on bare foot, offering of hair and performance of kalyanotsavam to the Lord. Of them, `angapradakshinam' is regarded as the best way of fulfilling one's prayers as it involves more physical constraints. A devotee performing the `angapradakshinam' prefers to starve (upavasam) the previous night, does not prefer to sleep, have a holy dip in the temple tank (pushkarini) braving the cold weather at Tirumala and reach the queue complex before 2 in the morning with wet clothes and roll around the temple precincts in fulfilment of his/her vow. Devotees, young and aged, irrespective of sex or economic status, participate in this ritual with utmost devotion.

The `angapradakshinam' should be considered as any other paid seva like suprabhatham seva since the management is against the commercialisation at Tirumala. Therefore, `angapradakshinam' is in favour of non - commercialisation at Tirumala, which means `angapradakshinam' is available for free of cost. When you permit devotees to do `angapradakshinam' in two rows, the legs of devotees are touching the heads of other devotees while doing the `angapradakshinam'. There is no separate darshan for devotees who did the`angapradakshinam' seva like suprabhatham seva ( a paid seva ). Please realise that `angapradakshinam' is regarded as the best way of fulfilling one's prayers as it involves more physical constraints ".

I am just writing the email is to request the management to organise the `angapradakshinam' seva in a best possible manner to the satisfaction of the devotees. When a devotee is satisfied about the seva organisation then it is understood that the management is in service of Lord Venkateswara.

Sincerely,
Venkat
Bangalore.
